If I could somehow write out the Jeopardy theme song, it would perfectly describe Mom's morning at the hospital. We sat around a lot but didn't do much. Today began with a blood draw through her new port at the oncology lab and then waiting for the results of that blood work in Dr. Aboo's office. Since this was Mom's first time at the office officially, we had to answer a lot of basic health questions to get her file started. Thank goodness Kevin was at the house because they asked for a list of all the meds Mom is on and I almost laughed out loud. My aunt put together a spreadsheet and we expanded it to give each drug Mom takes a letter. She has letters A-M! So perhaps you can see why I found humor in that question.
Apparently, it takes at least an hour for the blood work results to get to the oncology doctors, so we chilled for quite a while. We eventually found out that Mom's blood counts were pretty good, however, her iron was 115 (normal is 125) and her calcium was very low. She was supposed to go from her oncology appointment back to the lab for a dose of Pamidronate, a bone enhancer, but because her calcium levels were so low that was put on hold for now.
So after 3 1/2 hours we were finally heading home and have been taught once again, that patience is a virtue. She's now getting revved up for chemo tomorrow at 9am.
Please pray that:
- the increase in her calcium intake will help her levels
- the nausea will be minimal tomorrow during and after chemo
Hugs,
Us
Continued prayers... I was curious about a CBC for her... Hgb cant be 115 though.. normal for women is btw 11 and 13. Wondering if they were talking about her platelets?? Hoping her WBC's hang in there too to fight off any infections.
ReplyDeleteHugs from the VH family!!
I think it's actually her iron count not hemoglobin.
