Preparing for Battle

Even with Dr. Nechala's busy schedule, we were able to meet with him this morning.  Last night we had compiled a list of questions to ask him and I typed them out so we all had them available for the meeting and so we could remember it all.

Here's a summary of what he said:
  • x-ray looks good, the lung is expanding back nicely
  • we will know in 3-4 weeks whether or not the lung and pleura are reattaching and that no more fluid is collecting in Mom's lung
  • the results of the biopsy won't be known until end of next week
Since we won't know the official results, unofficially we asked him several questions so we would be better equipped to handle the possible outcome of the biopsy.  We all are in agreement that God is bigger than any of this and that we will continue to charge the gates of heaven with our requests for a miracle.  Until then the following points are the general surgeon's opinion since he is VERY certain we are dealing with a metastatic form of cancer (meaning it has started in one spot and is now in the lung).
  • Each nodule is about the size of the tip of your pinky finger
  • It is a mystery why it is only affecting the left lung
  • Oncology will want a full body bone scan
  • There are two oncologists in Owen Sound but we will continue to research where and what the best treatments are in Southwestern Ontario
  • Next step after drain is removed on Sunday and biopsy results are back next week, hopefully, is chemo until then, once she is released, she can travel as long as she listens to her body
  • Goal is for her to be home Monday with two to three weeks time for incision site healing and then begin treatment.
We will be able to meet with an oncologist already this afternoon and we'll post any updates from that as well.

Please pray for:
  1. It not to be cancer
  2. For the biopsy results to be very definitive
  3. The pleura to reattach to the lung
  4. Quick healing at drain and surgical sites
  5. Less and less pain
Please keep sending your notes of encouragement and favorite scripture passages!

:) In His Comforting Arms,
Us

  1. Hi Christine: It was good to talk with you this morning. Jane's condition is a shock for all of us and we had hoped that last year's lung issues were cleared up. We feel the weight of the uncertainty and the heavy forecast. As mentioned, we offer our family services for any milking you may need done. Jay and Reub have milked dairy and Reub has milked goats. If you need us to assist with farm chores in the coming months, let us know. You will continue to be lifted up with our prayers and give your mom a big hug from us till we see her. Take care. Love: Ed and Jennifer Vanderploeg and family.

  2. Hi my name is Dorothy Van Dyke and My family sat in front of you in church this past Sunday.(I hope we behaved...lol) I am praying for Jane that what you have asked for healing is answered. I read my bible every morning (after I feed the dogs) with a cup of coffee and then I go on the computer to check my e-mail and facebook. This is the first I heard about your blog and it's amazing that the scripture passage I read this morning is for Jane and the family. It moved me after I read your blog. Here it is: "This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us--what ever we ask--we know that we have what we asked of him."
    1 John 5:8
