(Oma Update) And so we wait...

Unfortunately, we don't have any big break throughs to report today.  Yesterday, Mom's respirologist, Dr. Marc Newton, came in to talk with her about how she is feeling but also to brainstorm where and why she is experiencing pleural effusion (fluid in her pleura, the fluid filled space around her left lung).  Presently, we are waiting on the cultures that they have in the lab.  The Dr. has received reports on the ones that need only 24 hours (all of which were negative) but we won't know the results of the 48 hour ones until Monday morning.  My dad did have the nurse call Dr. Newton and tell him that he would like to speak with him.  The problem with the Dr. doing rounds in the a.m. is that none of us have been able to speak with him about what the next step will be.  The nurse assured us that he would be more than willing to do so.  So either tonight or Monday my dad is determined to develop the next game plan with the doctor.   And so we wait...

Mom did not have anymore fluid drained from her lung today (Sunday) but she was really struggling with constipation and gas due to all the pain meds they have her on.  They have been giving her stool softners and a laxative but it wasn't working.  Besides, all of it was causing her to feel nauseated and very uncomfortable but she finally did experience some relief from the constipation this afternoon.  So hopefully, that will stay under control.

For you numbers people, her stats are BP 124/79, Pulse Ox 96 and her pulse was 82.  In other words, all of her general health info looks good.

So we would still covet your prayers for insight into what this pleural effusion is from and how to clear it up permanently.

Hugs to you all!
Christine (on behalf of Mom and Dad)

A get well arrangement :)

  1. Hi I guess I lost the last comment so if by any chance this is a repeat please overlook it. Rather have two than none. You dear, dear, people. We are praying for all of you. And we are especially praying for answers. Give Jane hugs from the Heyboer's. Thanks Christine for putting this on your blog. I was trying to figure out how I could call up to the farm for some answers but who knows who would be there and when so when Ger said you had stuff here, We were very thankful. Christine, if at all possible and if convenient for you would you be able to pick some flowers up to give to her from us. Will pay you as soon as you get home. I just don't want her to get overrun with bouquets or have them taken because of her condition for breathing. Some nice lotion for her would be O.K. also. ONLY IF IT is not TO MUCH BOTHER!!!!!
    Love all of you.
