Today was a day full of scans for Mom. This morning she started with a mammogram, then a head scan, and a full body CT scan. Then this afternoon around 2pm she was wheeled away for a bone scan which allowed us to go for some lunch downstairs. Later in the afternoon we started to talk about trying to find out if we could get any results from the scans. We decided we would find the oncologist's office and ask nicely if they knew anything about the scans yet and what kind of time frame we were looking at for the biopsy results.
While we were downstairs getting coffee for Mom, Dad and some of their guests, a God thing happened and we ran into the oncologist as we were heading to the elevators. He assured us he was headed to the lab right now and would be up to answer questions in a little while. And he did just that.
We sat down with him in the lounge at the end of the hall instead of in Mom's not-private room for which we are also grateful. He asked her if the drain was out and she said yes. He also confirmed that he would be moving her up to the 6th floor today.
He then told us that the pathologist said the results of the biopsy are stage IV adenocarcinoma (lung cancer), however it looks like the lung is the place of origin not another organ. The cancer is scattered over the left lung but also on the right one. There is still fluid on her left lung but chemo will dry that up. According to the CT scan, there have been some changes in her bones but we are awaiting the results of the bone scan for more accurate results. Her head scan looked good.
We had asked a couple days ago if we should get a second opinion and the oncologist had NO problem with that and he asked us again today if we wanted to do that but Mom is ready to rock and roll because the prognosis of this type of cancer is not great - it is very aggressive. So she will do her first dose of chemo tomorrow (Tuesday) thru Thursday. This chemo will take place every 3 weeks for 4-6 sessions depending on how her body responds. After which she will have to stay on maintenance treatments. This will be outpatient except for this initial session. Hopefully, she will be out of the hospital and home on Monday next week. Oh, and as a side note, she has a 95% chance that she will lose all her hair, so we are already thinking about how many of us will cut our hair with her! :)
It's very emotional for Mom and Dad and the rest of us! Please uplift us in your prayers.
There are so many things to pray for that we're just going to leave it in God's hands to prompt you/touch your heart with things to pray for...

When you said you didn't know the entire list of what to pray for anymore, than I thought of Psalm 139, especially vs. 1,2 and 4 and hope it will be a comfort. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.

wow Christine. I haven't seen you since Mo's wedding, and before that it was probably when we were locker neighbours. I'm friends with Mo on facebook and was wondering what was going on, her posts were a little cryptic but she kept mentioning to follow your blog. I've read it all through. I'm really sorry you and your family have to go through this. My wife and I will be praying for you and Mo and especially your mom.
