Should Have Asked for an Exciting Uneventful Day!!

Yes, it's true!  The Salls have once again broken some more bones!

Well, as they like to say, "When it rains it pours."  Everything was and did go great with Kevin today.  He accomplished all his walks, ate a nice soft diet and was using the bathroom like a champ.  However, this morning just before 11 am we received a call from school that Tristan had fallen and hurt himself.  In talking to Pam, the secretary, we discovered that Tristan had been accidentally bumped from behind in the hallway and fallen forhead first to the ground.  As he fell, his right toes became bent underneath his foot towards his heel.

Since Kevin and I were at Blodgett, Papa Ger and Grandma Carol messed up their entire schedule just to bring Tristan  to us so we could get him looked at here in the ER.  However, we found out that only Helen DeVos Children's Hospital could treat a small child with broken bones in this GR area so when they arrived Gerry stayed with Kevin while Carol and I took Tristan downtown.  It tore at my heart to leave my husband but also pained me to see one of my little men in so much pain.

I had just mentioned to Kevin earlier this past weekend that I would like to see the new children's hospital, well, my wish was granted and Tristan was admitted to the Children's ER around noon (after first accidentally going to the original ER.)  Once checked in, he received some liquid vicodin and he began to relax.  The doctor came in and took a look at Tristan's golf ball sized goose egg on his head and said he wasn't worried about that and that his foot looked to be a sprain.  He also told us that it is very difficult to break the bones in the top of the foot and that they generally only see those types of breaks after car accidents and such.  The x-ray technician had us back quickly and took three x-rays of his foot and before we knew it we were back in the ER room.  Then the wait began.  Eventually, the doctor came in and told us that Tristan did break three of the bones in the top of his foot and that it would need a boot and/or splint.  And then we waited some more.  We later found out that another child had come in with a broken arm and needed to be sedated and have it set so we took a back seat.  By 6pm Tristan FINALLY had a plaster splint on, practiced with his crutches and had received another dose of pain meds so we were headed back to see 'Daddy'.

Today proved to me that I once again can plan all I want to but only God has the ultimate control over my life.  I found myself asking God over and over, "What am I supposed to learn from this, Lord?"  Right now, I still don't have any answers and find myself with a pretty hefty headache but I'm going to choose to trust him and lay my head down and thank Him, once again, for excellent physicians, nurses hospital staffs, Papa Ger and Grandma Carol as well as the Meyering family who took Gideon and Noah to their home after school since the rest of us were still stuck in hospitals.  Oh, and I'm going to be sure to ask Him, not only for an exciting, uneventful night, but an exciting, uneventful day as well!!!!

Coveting your prayers for a speedy recovery for Tristan,
Kevin and Christine & family

  1. Romans 8:18 "For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us." That one helps me a lot when things seem bad. If you need anything or help with the kids, I'd love to help.

It is very true that we Do have to be reminded that God is in control.
